autumn/winter 2021

A contrast of dark wools and repurposed textiles reveals the origins and stories of this J’AKE collection. Memory and affiliation with local communities are presented through the mix of soft utilitarian wears fabricated in; wool, linen, cotton and other bespoke materials.

Part I.

Grey and black wools stands as a new face for the first winter collection of J’AKE. Soft tailored outerwear and pants are built of a Japanese wool-silk blend and lined with a washed linen. Aotearoa sourced merino is knitted into comforting turtle neck jumpers. Stark and moody silhouettes references the revisited works of Max Richter, while the wool fibres provide sentimental [and physical] warmth.

Part II.

Canvas of discarded horses covers are reworked into a bespoke jacket, lined with soft remnant curtain cloth. Features and details of; old camping tents, worn vaccum bags, potters mats and medical unit bed canvas remains as visual elements that are built into treasured 1-of-1 outerwear pieces. Characteristics and fabric traits serve as memories of the textiles previous life and are therefore valued.
